Mr EH will be out of town on business until October 14th . Boxes will be planted that following weekend!  On a good note, a hotel room is a good place to carve stamps.

 It isn’t as bad as it appeared. The location took care of itself. A beautiful trail near a historic location that offers a day of exploring before or after Letterboxing. The concept was to create a series of 4 to 5 boxes that would be relatively maintenance free yet creative. Here is a preview of the mold and casting rig.

Casting will begin on the morrow. All of the boxes will be custom made. We have given ourselves a two week projection on completion of the series, but we are going to focus on getting it right.

 Now if we just had a theme and images for the stamps…

Not a moument to soon. We discovered a great trail near a historic location this past weekend, and we are hard at work in the Eraser Head Cave trying to develop a box series.

We don’t want to rush it though. This place has much potential, and needs some good hides.

To find this box, you’ll need a Bronco.

Head past the cactus, keeping it on your right.

The boots not made for walking will be the next item in sight.

The wise old Owl says “look in the green!”

When this box was listed, the “Kid Friendly” icon was not chosen because the location is close to Main Street. We will leave this decision up to the parents.

Wood-RUFF Alley Cat (link to Atlas Quest Listing)

Wood-RUFF is a tough place to be an Alley Cat. None the less, this tough ole Cat has found a comfortable place to call home. Your job is to locate our cats favorite alley.

First you will have to make your way to Main Street Woodruff, South Carolina. There you will want to meet up with the three bears who will help you start your journey.

The Three Bears are friends of the “Alley Cat”.  Their advice, could they speak, would be to head into town to their favorite place where they share a friendly cup of joe with “Alley Cat” from time to time.

After a good cup of Joe, stand in front of the cafe and look down mainstreet to check the time. The time is best viewed from the base of the clock.

Once your certain it is time to find the “Alley Cat”, look about for place that looks like this…

Follow the path until you reach the end of the alley. It is said that “Alley Cat” loves to sit on the keystone directly in front of the middle tree and howl his evening serenade. A cafeful investigation of this stone may reveal the secret of the Wood-RUFF Alley Cat.

Good luck on your adventure. This is our first Letterbox plant, and we had a wonderful time hiding it. There was a street festival the day we planted this box, and the band that evening played a very fitting song. We included it for your entertainment.

SC Alphabet Soup #2 “B” is for Belton

I have passed this structure many times, and always wondered what it was.

Ladies and gentleman, I present you with the Belton Standpipe.

This structure was erected in 1908 by the Belk Company and is listed in The State Historical records. I am still not quite sure what it is, but it is very interesting to look at, and reason enough for Belton to hold a “Standpipe Festival”. I think what attracted me to this place is the Letterbox.

Confederate Stars and Bars

Another great glimpse into American history in the Abbeville, SC area.

This box is planted in the Long Cane Cemetery which was established in 1760. Veterans serving in eight wars can be found in this historic time capsule. I was fortunate enough to locate a confederate gravesite where the marker indicated the soldier (A 19 year old boy) had passed away in the home from wounds received at the battle of Chancellorsville. I also located a Revolutionary War gravesite. Very interesting graveyard.

A word of warning about this box…you don’t want to keep up with the Jones’s.

Steepled in History- This was yet another wonderful Letterboxing discovery.

Steepled in History highlights the Trinity Episcopal Church constructed in 1859-60. The classic Gothic Architecture with 125 foot steeple still stands magnificent against the modern day skyline. The church is surrounded by a beautiful ivy ground cover and sidewalks alley’s.
 

If you explore the path to the left of the church, you will notice a small clearing to your left. Venture into the clearing and you will be rewarded by finding a Memorial to Colonel and Mrs. J Foster Marshall. Colonel Marshall was one of the three lost Colonels of the Confederacy, and the only one buried in the churchyard.

This Letterbox is a “Must Do” for those interested in American history. Special thanks to zoemomma for placing this box in such a wonderful location.
